Marytherese’s Clavicle Fracture Patient Story

Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) Surgery

Shoulder surgeon Dr. Ronak Patel repaired Marytherese’s collarbone the morning after she traumatically broke it playing softball. This injury occurred two days before Marytherese’s senior softball season was to begin, and she was devastated. Additionally, she was slated to play Big 10 softball at The University of Wisconsin Madison just a few months later. She plays outfield and throws with her right arm into the infield regularly, about 67 miles per hour. Her injury was on the right side.

Her future was uncertain and we were so sad for her. She wasn’t sure if she’d regain her confidence, strength, or range of motion. Dr. Patel assured us (and reassured us) that her future would be bright. Everyone on staff was amazing. – Said, Marytherese’s mother Susan.

Marytherese is now a sophomore at UW, playing in the outfield, and she is confident, strong and powerful. She has been traveling the country playing this sport and she gets stronger and more powerful by the day. So inspiring!
